I know it’s been a long time since I’ve updated this but since I have my favourite BlackBerry back I will be starting again. My first post after coming back will be mostly an update for friends/family that are waiting for me to try to get out of this storm and back to BC.
So for the last week or so I’ve been either working for 20 hour shifts or sleeping for 6 to 10 between. That ended when I marched home through the blizzard on Saturday night. I watched a movie with Dan and started packing for my upcoming move in about a day and a half. From then until around 6AM Monday morning I put random stuff in boxes, took it out, rearranged, and generally compacted my stuff into a closet and a back room.
After running some errands around campus/RIM I decided that trying to move this morning or get some kind of costume for a New Years party would have to wait. I saw that the lines just to check in at the airport had people sleeping in them. This prompted taking an earlier shuttle, causing my planned breakfast to be had in the plaza and a lunch to be cancelled.
The shuttle was early, and I was feeling like my karma was improving for some reason. Then when I did the self check-in my boarding passes didn’t print. That’s right: didn’t print. After talking to a special “self service assistant” I was sent to a much shorter line to check-in, telling me it might have been a good thing it didn’t print.
At said check-in I found out something else: my bag was overweight. By six pounds, which is apparently double whatever the “allowable overweight” limit is. Not wanting to pay an extra $50 I asked if I could fish something out of my very tightly packed (read: I had to sit on it to do up the zipper) bag. She said yes, thankfully.
After removing my Wii the bag lost 3 pounds which apparently was good enough for the secret actual weight limit. After hearing about all my difficulties with the passes and snow and moving, the check-in lady asked if I wanted to be on an earlier flight. I said yes, thinking I could meet up with someone in Van for some food.
So I’m sitting here in the Vancouver airport now, just arrived at 5PM in time to barely miss the earlier Comox flight that I would have taken. Also, it seems as though all of the family or friends I have contact info for are either gone from Vancouver or busy. Anyone suggest a good restaurant to have a nice dinner for one at the airport? I’ve got two hours…
So I’m home now and they lost my bag. Along with all of the issues I’d been having the bag being missing was just the straw that broke the camel’s back. Once my parents picked me up (late, they obviously don’t quite miss me as much as they used to
) we went over to Nana and Papa’s (Mom’s parents) for a visit before heading home. My bag showed up in the morning and all seems well.
