This will be the last liveblog part of the trip to NYC! I will probably put up another update of things I forgot sometime this week. We would all just like to thank Mike for arranging the show, our apartment, dinner… pretty much the whole trip really. THANK YOU! Read on for the second road trip adventure. Cast: Jeff, Yassir, and me.
30PM - Manhattan Island - Well, we’re on our way! We just dropped Mike near his apartment and Jeff is already freaking out about needing directions: the road trip has officially started. Will update when we get out of the city.
PM - I280 - We’re out of the city with minimal problems. We have already started in on the snacks, and I think we might need to stop to refill somewhere in northern NY. We’re recording our route again so there should be a map of our drive here and back available at some point.
30PM - I380 - We’ve been driving through snow storms on and off all the way up and there is now snow on the sides of the road. We’re playing the name game: one person comes up with a person and the others have to guess yes or no questions to try to see who it is. So far we’ve had some pretty random ones like Pam Anderson, Orville Wright (of the Wright Brothers), and Oscar Wilde. Yes, it has come to this.
PM - Cracker Barrel in Bimghamton - We decided to stop off at a Cracker Barrel for food before going for the long haul back to Canada. I’ve learned that unless I continually remind Jeff of the highway we need (right to the point of being in the exit itself) he goes the wrong way. Even if going the wrong way means taking an exit three lanes away, he somehow manages to do it.
PM - I81 - Lunch was fantastic, and I don’t know why there aren’t any Cracker Barrels in Canada: I would go there all the time! Jeff and Yassir both had the Sunday Homestyle Chicken while I had an excellent roast beef dinner with a milkshake. I seem to be having issues with my contacts so I might have to fix my glasses when I get back to the Loo. We should be in Syracuse within the hour so we’re almost done our northern American trek. From there we will head West to get back into Canada.
PM - I90 (thankfully) - Jeff lost us and now I need to drive: I’ll update you when I get a chance.
PM - Border Crossing at Niagara Falls - So I drove most of the way here from Syracuse so Jeff could get some sleep which should explain the gap in updates. I should clarify that Jeff didn’t lose us, he just decided he didn’t need a navigator then missed an exit. We were back on track pretty quickly then I took over driving. We’re just getting some duty free goodness and Yassir’s getting his exit stamp and then we’re off for home.
PM - 403 - So close I can almost taste it! Or maybe that’s the remains of the snacks that have fallen to our carnage. Either way, it’s good. I just realized how good a deal duty free is: my bottle of rum was 40% of its normal cost *and* there was no tax! I need to visit the states more often! I think we need to make four day road trips a part of our regularly scheduled programming. Any takers?
PM - Home! - We all made it back safely to Waterloo and unpacked into the house. Yassir said his farewells after sleeping the last hour of the trip so that he could drive back to Bolton for work in the morning. I hope you all enjoyed this, I will try to start writing real posts soon. Also, I will be replacing most of the images with the non-compressed versions some time soon, so check back in a couple days for that. Don’t forget to also check out my Flickr account for more pictures. Good night and Happy Easter! I need some sleep!
