Sorry I haven’t posted in a long time, been doing the whole finishing undergrad thing and then staying with the folks for the summer. We’re on our way back to Ontario now, and I’ll be updating as often as I get a chance now that I’m sans-smartphone. Major recent news: I’m doing my Masters at the University of Waterloo with Rob Gorbet, Sarah is doing the Craft and Design - Glass program at Sheridan, and we have a 3 floor, 2 bedroom townhouse for the duration! Now, on to the trip:

We started our trip by heading out to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island to take a boat over to Clayoquot Wilderness Resort for a couple days with my parents. Did some horseback riding, got some massages, and ate some amazing food before repacking the car and driving down to Victoria. We got to visit some friends and then surfed a couch so that we could arrive at our ferry by 5:10 AM (time of arrival: 5:09 AM…) to begin the American portion of our trip.

Later that same day (around 10 AM) we arrived at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma which was amazing! Spent a few hours there: saw some glass blowing in progress in their ‘Hot Shop’, an entire gallery of Preston Singletary pieces, and lots of other artists’ pieces in and around the museum including a ton of Dale Chihuly. Spent the night in Tumwater in order to catch up on some much needed sleep and discovered that American frozen yogurt is actually yogurt that has been frozen. Hurl…

Started today bright and early at … 11 AM. The much needed rest seems to have boosted our driving abilities for the day, as we plowed right through the rest of Washington and all of Oregon with only a couple quick rest stops and dinner in southern Oregon (in what Sarah has deemed ‘Narsty Medford’) before finding a hotel in Redding, California. That’s right, we’re already in California! A whole 900 km on Sarah’s Jetta ‘Tony’ in the first day of real driving. Just wait until we’re going across the country: we’ll be unstoppable!

Well, that’s the update for today. The first of many, as we will be on the road until some time around August 15th most likely.
